Our mission at Just FreshDirect is to provide customers with both great products and total transparency, which means always telling you how everything is made, what’s in it, and where it comes from. That’s why our products are always made with ingredients you can pronounce by people we know. So when it came to setting up our milk program, we knew it was important to get the milk from a source we trust.
We buy our delicious organic milk from New York family farmers, members of a farmer-owned cooperative we’ve worked with for years. Why do we only work with local farmers? Simple: Because minimizing the time and distance the milk travels from the farm to our warehouse to your fridge results in fresher, better-tasting milk.
One of the local farms we work with in Owego, Tioga County belongs to Madeline and Bruce Poole. The Pooles’ farm is a certified-organic, pasture-based dairy. They primarily feed the cows grass and dry forages resulting in milk that is higher in omega-3 fatty acids. Farming organically without the use of pesticides, GMOs, or antibiotics results in healthier, happier cows. And you can really taste the difference!
It’s also worth noting that our milk is pasteurized using the HTST (high temperature/short time) method. This means our milk is heated for a short period of time to ensure all harmful bacteria is killed without compromising the taste and integrity of the milk.
