Do you ever wish you could use peak-season corn in a winter chili instead of the canned stuff? Good news! You can. Our friends at Hudson Valley Harvest are redefining the way we think about frozen food. They harvest fruit and veggies at peak-season before flash-freezing them to lock in the nutrients and great taste, meaning you can enjoy the best in fresh no matter the season.
Hudson Valley Harvest was founded in 2011 by three friends: a farmer, a chef, and a health enthusiast—the perfect trio to ensure the project’s output was auspicious, delicious, and nutritious. Hudson Valley Harvest works with over 40 partner farms (including our partners Altobelli and Hepsworth) dedicated to growing and raising great food. The company’s ethos is to keep things simple and keep things local (their truckers pick up the produce or livestock directly from the farm and bring it straight to us).
When it comes to flash-frozen fruit and veggies, Hudson Valley Harvest’s are the best we’ve ever tried. But just as good as the taste is the company’s transparency. Every product label is printed at the time of processing and contains all the information customers care about. For example, where the produce was grown and how far it traveled in miles to where it was washed, chopped, and frozen.
Because HVH works closely with farmers, they can harvest produce at its absolute peak, which means that their frozen fruit and veggies taste better than produce that’s picked before ripe and then shipped across the country. All the produce goes from field to freezer in less than 24 hours, ensuring the nutrients and great taste remain.
One of our favorite frozen veggies from HVH is sweet corn from Altobelli Family Farm. In fact, we love it so much that when we partnered with Roberta’s on an exclusive new pizza, there was only ever one topping that was guaranteed to make the cut. That’s right! Altobelli corn.
