We are living for cheese plates with fall flavors this year.
This is the fun part! There’s a wide variety to choose from and mixing and matching is our favorite way to choose our cheese. We categorize our cheese as:
An aged cheese is categorized as having been ‘aged’ more than 6 months. Usually sharp and nutty, we enjoy these with a thin slice of pear or apple. Our favorites are Havarti, Gouda, Sharp Cheddar, and Parmesan.
Soft cheeses are just that, soft! They are creamy, mild, and buttery and absolutes perfect on a cracker. Our favorites are Brie, Goat Cheese, and Ricotta.
This cheese, simply put, is when you can see lines of blue mold throughout. We lovingly say these cheese are deliciously pungent. Our favorites are Camembert, Gorgonzola, and Roquefort.
These are the cheese we love to grate and shred into warm dishes. They have a pungent punch and a deep flavor. Our favorites are Asiago, Mimolette, and Manchego.
For our plate, we wanted to mix and match in order to get a great selection of four cheeses.
The meats you need to choose for your plate will be of the preserved variety, These meats will be safe to eat as your plate is out and also pack a powerful flavor punch. We love going with cured, dried meats like Salami, prosciutto, candied bacon, ham, pâté, and sopprassata. We also lean towards the herb crusted or infused meats to give the plate an extra zip of flavor.
Breads and Crackers
In addition to adding some much needed texture and crunch, our carbs are the vehicles that drive all that delicious straight to our mouths. And again, variety is everything. We always get a ton of crackers, because it is always the first thing to run out so we filled our board with breadsticks, cheesy breadsticks, sliced baguette, herbed crackers, sweet crackers, and seeded crackers.
Trust us, you will need all of that and maybe a little more.
To round out the perfect cheese plate, you’ll want delicious extras that go well with the chosen meats and cheeses. We always grab seasonal fruit like apples and pears, olives, spicy honey, jam, and nuts like almonds and cashews.
Now all you have to do is open your favorite wine and enjoy!
