6 Simple Ways to Enjoy Seasonal Stone Fruit

Juicy peaches, sweet plums, and perfectly plump cherries—we can’t get enough of our fresh stone fruit. What’s stone fruit, you might ask? It’s a fruit with edible flesh that encloses a stone or shell; it’s currently in season and ready for eating! And if you’re looking for recipe inspiration, check out some of our simple and delicious ways to get cooking with stone fruit.

  • Pairing sweet and savory food is a great way to bring out the deep flavors of fresh ingredients. Skewer sliced peaches, chicken breast, and your favorite summer veggies for a simple grilled shish kabob, and serve with a hearty side, like grape tomato and herb couscous.
  • For another sweet-and-savory dinner dish, toss cut cherries, peaches, and plums with butter lettuce, blue cheese, hazelnuts, and balsamic vinaigrette for a refreshing summer salad. And if you’re feeling adventurous, make a cherry-lime vinaigrette to go with it. For the vinaigrette, you can simply blend 10-15 red cherries, the juice of 2 limes, a tablespoon of honey or sugar, and then whisk grapeseed oil, salt, and pepper into the mix.
  • It’s app time! Mix chopped cherries, peaches, and plums with honey, minced mint, cinnamon, and lemon juice for a sweet salsa. Pair with regular or cinnamon pita chips.
  • For a refreshing breakfast, add sliced nectarines and peaches to your morning oatmeal, granola, or yogurt parfait.
  • For dessert, grill halved peaches and use to top vanilla bean ice cream and FreshDirect pound cake.
  • To sweeten your next summer shindig, chop peaches, nectarines, and strawberries, and mix with your favorite white wine for a tasty sangria.
  • Make your own cherry limeade! Take a pound of pitted red cherries, lime juice from two limes, and a half cup of sugar and bring the mixture to a boil on the stove. Let it simmer for about 20 minutes, mashing up the cherries as you go along. When the mixture has cooled, strain the juice out, add it to the bottom of a drink container with the juice of 6-8 limes, 6 cups of cold water, lots of ice, and ½-1 cup of sugar (more or less depending on taste).
