Beyond Strawberry Shortcake

There’s no better spring dessert than strawberry shortcake. The fluffy, yet crunchy, biscuits that melt in your mouth, the luscious berries that ooze juice, the… okay we’ll stop now. But variety is the spice of life, and sometimes you just have to switch up an old favorite. We gave our head chef, Tina Bourbeau, the mission of creating a new twist on strawberry shortcake and she delivered with six creative combinations we can’t wait to try.

The Strawberry-Ginger Zinger
Base: Tate’s Ginger Zinger Cookies
Berry: Sliced strawberry salad w/ mint and olive oil
Topping: Strawberry ice cream with drizzled aged balsamic vinegar

The Better Butter Shortcake
Base: Croissant and French ham
Berry: Strawberry butter
Topping: Cave-aged Gruyere
Press into a panini

The Fresh French Shortcake
Base: Challah
Berry: Mixed berry compote
Topping: Sweetened ricotta and cinnamon sugar

The Macerated Mix
Base: Sliced vanilla or lemon pound cake
Berry: Macerated mixed berries
Topping: Sweetened crème fraiche

The Champagne Dream
Base: Warm cinnamon scones
Berry: Mixed berries
Topping: Champagne Sabayon

The Dulce de Shortcake
Base: Butter cookies
Berry: Strawberries
Toppings: Grand Marnier and dulce de leche ice cream
