Celebrating Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby!

Mayan Temple

Our Mayan Temple Margarita is perfect for Cinco de Mayo!

Tipplers have their work cut out for them on May 5th!  Cinco de Mayo AND Derby Day will be celebrated on the same day so what’s an imbiber to do?

Prepare yourself with a cocktail for each!  Following are two cocktails- one a variation on the classic Margarita and one a tip of the cap to Derby Day circa 1940’s- perfect for the occasions at hand.

Our Mayan Temple Margarita is an eclectic mix of fruit and spirit.  Siete Leguas Blanco Tequila is the star here, adding intense tropical tones and hearty spice to the cocktail.

Siete Leguas prides themselves on painstakingly slow, traditional methods in creating their spirit and it shows in the glass.  The Blanco is joined by Rhum Clément Créole Shrubb Liqueur d’Orange, used instead of Triple Sec, along with St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur, Dolin Dry Vermouth, and fresh lime juice to balance of sweet and savory.  Muddled golden pineapple and mint form the fresh and flavorful fruit base to the cocktail….

Southern-style Brunch at Home

Brunch at Home

Do you prefer to dine in or go out?  There are so many great brunch places in NYC, but sometimes, it’s just nice to have a casual affair at home instead.

Recently, I decided to have some friends over for brunch.  It was wonderful – no long waits and we could stay and chat as long as we wanted.

I wasn’t sure what to make so I checked out President’s Picks for inspiration.  I can be notoriously indecisive so sometimes I just go to President’s Picks and make decisions for what I want to cook based on what’s on sale for the week.  That particular week had our Wild Patagonian Red Shrimp on sale.  I knew our seafood guys had just come back from checking out these shrimp in Patagonia and had mentioned how wonderfully fresh and rich they were so I had to order them. Plus, it helped me decide on serving shrimp and grits (polenta) for a Southern-style brunch….
