Start your day off right with a fried egg over greens, FreshDirect salsa, local heirloom cherry tomatoes, grilled red onions, shishito peppers and a side of whole wheat toast.
Don’t just have a morning, have a great morning! How? By starting your day with a healthy, well-balanced breakfast.
It doesn’t have to be a big meal, but a little something in the AM really does get the day started right.
Skipping breakfast makes it more difficult for the brain and body to perform well. Adults who eat a healthy breakfast are better able to focus and be productive throughout the morning, and are more likely to have lower cholesterol levels and better weight management.

Peanut butter sandwiches served with Red Jacket Orchards apple slices make an easy and healthy breakfast!
Kids and adolescents who eat a healthy breakfast are more likely to meet their nutrient needs (very important for growing bodies!), be alert and creative, miss fewer days of school, be more physically active, and perform better in problem-solving and hand-eye coordination activities.
A balanced breakfast will include lean protein, a little bit of fat, and healthy carbohydrates from whole grains, fruits, and veggies. Here’s what that means in terms of some of my favorite healthy breakfast foods:
| Protein | Whole Grains | Fruits & Veggies |
| Eggs | Whole wheat toast | Apples and Pears |
| Canadian Bacon | Oatmeal | Bananas |
| Low sodium turkey | Whole wheat banana bread | Kiwi and Mango |
| Cheese | Whole grain tortilla | Cantaloupe |
| Non-fat yogurt | Brown rice porridge | Onions |
| Peanut butter | Whole wheat pancakes | Shishito peppers |
| Walnuts | Whole wheat waffles | Tomatoes |
Many of these ingredients are on sale right now on the Healthy Living for Less section in the shop. Also check out our Breakfast Ideas photo album on the FreshDirect Facebook page!
